Some of this is going to get a little scientific. While I just have strong faith in how crystals work, I wanted to dig into this with you. I know there are some profoundly analytical people out there, although they are open-minded, they still like to get down to the nuts and bolts of how crystals work. How can they do all these things people and books claim that they do.

First, let’s look into what a crystal is

What is a Crystal?

The universally accepted definition of a crystal is; “a solid body with geometrically regular shapes.” A crystal, or a crystalline solid, is a solid material whose constituents (such as atoms, molecules, or ions) are arranged in a highly organized microscopic structure – forming a crystal lattice that extends in all directions.

It includes not only the sparkly gemstones but also semi-precious stones, such as Agate, Amber, Amethyst, Jade, Jasper, etc., and other natural stones.

Let’s take a look into their history next.

Crystals in history

Crystals in history

Crystals have been regarded highly for centuries, from the Sumerians to modern-day Ayurvedic doctors.

The first historical references to the use of crystals come from the ancient Sumerians (4th millennium BC), who included crystals in magic formulas. Crystals were (and are) used for healing in traditional Chinese Medicine, which dates back to at least 5000 years.

Warriors would use Carnelian to help them in battle; they would use Amethyst to keep them from getting intoxicated by their ale. They would wear Amulets for protection. People of high society would be covered in gems in their graves to help their spirit cross into the next plane of existence, and for protection from evil spirits. Ancient medicines would include crystal dust to make elixirs, and so much more! Ancient Egypt that women would powder crystals to create makeup as well.

The ancient Greeks attributed several properties to crystals, and many names are of Greek origin. The word crystal comes from the Greek word for ice; it is said that clear Quartz was water that had frozen so deeply that it would always remain solid. The word amethyst means “not drunken,” as mentioned above, it means not to become intoxicated, and it also prevented hangovers.

Crystals and our love for them are coming back with force. It leaves people with the question: How crystals work. To know how crystals work, we first need to understand how they form.

How do crystals form?

How do crystals form?

It is a lengthy and scientific way to say that our planet is fantastic, and is capable of really awesome things, but let’s get to it.

Crystals form in pretty volatile conditions. First, we need magma. Earth is full of magma chambers that are in the Earth’s mantle. As hot magma moves towards the Earth’s surface, it crystallizes to form young, hot, igneous rocks. The heat from these rocks dries groundwater towards the surface. As the water cools, ions precipitate out as mineral crystals.

For example; Quartz is created when we have silicon and oxygen atoms formed together. Feldspar, constructed with Potassium, aluminum, silicon, and oxygen. Galena, constructed with lead and sulphur.

Why do crystals have different shapes?

It will bring us back to the beginning when I mentioned crystals are “a solid body with geometrically regular shapes.” Such as Quartz grows in points, Galena grows as cubes. How can this be?

What causes it to grow in these shapes again and again? Part of the answer lies in the atoms. Every crystal’s atoms arranged in a highly organized repeating pattern. This pattern is the defining feature of a crystal, and it isn’t restricted to minerals. For example, we have various other things in life that have these repeating crystalline patterns, such as; sand, ice, sugar, chocolate, ceramics, metals, DNA, and even some liquids – water.

Each crystalline materials’ atomic arrangement falls into one of six different families.

  • Cubic
  • Tetragonal
  • Orthorhombic
  • Monoclinic
  • Triclinic
  • Hexagonal

The shape of the crystal solely depends on the arrangement of the atoms. Quartz, for example, belongs in the hexagonal family; the atoms arrange themselves in a pyramid creating a six-sided hexagon shape with points on the ends. Galena’s atoms arrange themselves in a cubic structure. It is how it forms a cube shape.

How crystals work

How crystals work - explained

This part is a little tricky because it is not scientifically proven beneficial for health, other than the ability of the helpful minerals in the crystal that can break through the skin barrier and assist in specific physical ways.

However, it is proved scientifically through technology. For example, there is Quartz in plenty of things such as clocks/watches, radios, microprocessors, and many other industrial applications. The use of Quartz crystals is that they maintain a precise frequency standard, which helps to regulate the movement of a watch or clock, for example.

All humans have an energy field; everything has an energy field; everything is energy. Understand that frequency can be seen in energy, humans vibrate at different frequencies; let’s say you walked into a room with a certain “vibe” you know something is off, right? That is your body’s energy field registering the frequency the other people in the room are sending to you.

Our bodies have DNA, a crystalline structure. As well as water which we are 56% made of, taking this information into account, we can make an informed decision that the crystal can radiate a frequency, we can pick up on that and absorb it through our energy fields. The different constituents of the crystals determine what frequency it vibrates at, how it can assist in all the bodies; mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical.

Science aside, it’s something to be experienced. When you get a genuine call to a crystal, you can feel the difference in your whole body. When you choose crystals to serve specific purposes, you will notice it helps. It is not meant to replace any medications or treatments that medical professionals have prescribed, but it can be extra support.

How to choose your crystals

How to choose your crystals

As mentioned above, depending on what you are looking for additional support with, there are many suitable options available. It can be from emotional healing, opening the heart, assisting a cleansing of the chakras, aura clearing, physical pain, diseases, etc.

However, a crystal knows who it needs to help. Think of crystals as having a little fairy within it ready to assist you. The crystal will connect with your vibration; if it is meant to work with you, you will feel an actual pull towards it. A pull is described as a feeling you just can’t shake, you keep thinking about it, or you keep seeing it. When you touch a crystal that you are pulled towards, it feels so good. It feels like love, safety, and hope.

Crystals know what you need on every level, even if you are unaware of it. They can assist you in all the bodies we carry; mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical.

I hope this will help you see the benefit of crystals and how they work to assist you. As always if you have any questions, please leave me a comment below or send me an email at gemstormrelevation@gmail.com
