First discovered by Europeans in 1811 in the Ilimaussaq intrusive complex in Greenland, Sodalite did not become famous as an ornamental stone until 1891 when vast deposits of fine material were discovered in Ontario, Canada.
In the grand timeline of life, Sodalite is a relatively “new” crystal on the scene. Europeans first discovered it in 1811 in Greenland. She found and was entirely captivated by the Sodalite from Canada that she made arrangements for over 130 tonnes of the rock was shipped over by 1906 to decorate the Marlborough House in London.
In modern spirituality and beliefs, Sodalite has become known as a stone of empowerment for mature women. It is believed to have a connection to St. Ann, the Grandmother of Christ.
Sodalite Properties in the Bodies

Uses for Sodalite
There is no wrong way to use crystals, you can always follow what you are guided to, but I have a few tips here if you’re unsure.
Carry it around with you in a pocket, purse, wallet, and for ladies – in the bra.
Wear it in a piece of jewelry; there are many beautiful pieces by amazing artists out there. Seek what you’re drawn to.
Meditate with it in your dominant hand for releasing, non-dominant for receiving. For example, if you are looking to rid of an old habit, meditate with it in your dominant hand. If you need to obtain some heart energy, place it in the non-dominant.
Grids, beautiful energy enters the home or a room where you lay a grid. You can do this one in many ways.
-First, we have different grid mats that you can use so you know the placement of the crystals and call in the energy of the various ancient geometric patterns.
-You can place a crystal on each outside corner of the home on each floor to grid an entire house.
-Or, you can place one in each corner of the room you are gridding.
Chakra Healing with Sodalite
Sodalite vibrates with blue crystal energy – tied to both the Throat and Third Eye Chakras. The Throat Chakra is the voice of the entire body. We need to express or communicate from any of the centers collect here to be voiced and heard. If the Throat Chakra is out of balance or blocked, it can affect the other chakras’ health, especially those closest to it (heart and Third Eye).
When the Throat Chakra is balanced and open, we find communication easy and effortless. It allows us to express our thoughts and emotions – bringing our truths to the world. Sodalite energy can unblock and balance the Throat Chakra.
As mentioned above, Sodalite is also a Third Eye awakener – the center of perception and command. This center directs our sight and awareness of the world and its collective energies. It can balance the important and not important – sorting thoughts into real or not files so we can see our truth and others clearly.
When the Third Eye Chakra is in balance, we see clearly and understand everything we see. We are better equipped to pick up on body language cues and perceptions. Internal dialogue is typically more positive and healthy with a balanced Third Eye Chakra.
Use this Crystal when you seek help with any of the properties mentioned above or “issues.” Use as described under uses, or have fun and find your way.
Final Thoughts
For me personally, I love crystals that can assist me with my thoughts. I often suffer from creeping negative thoughts; it is an old program that will upgrade. However, when I hold Sodalite, I can feel the brain fog lifting and become more aware of my personal truth and power. I become more empathetic towards others because my communication skills are supported by the Crystal, not necessarily in the way I speak, but also in how I hear and listen to things being communicated to me or through me. I can receive messages from guides, but if my Throat or Third Eye Chakras are out of balance, I will have trouble hearing from the command center (Third Eye Chakra – see blog for more info).
